Why Colombia?

The northernmost country in South America is just a five-hour flight from New York boasting amazing diversity and rich history.

Colombia is home to amazing colonial architecture, crystal blue Caribbean water, Amazon jungle, snow-capped mountains and of course, great coffee.

Breathe in the beautiful culture and great weather of this country. The sexiness and intrigue of Colombia never disappoint.

Day 1: Arrival in Colombia

Arrive at Cartagena International Airport by 2PM and be shuttled to our boutique accommodations.

Settle into our compound inside the walled city of Cartagena de Indias that you will call home for the next five days.

This evening explore the neighborhood of San Diego, as the entire historic district is within walking distance of our hotel.

Day 2: Palenque African Settlement

Day trip to San Basillio de Palenque, an African village founded by escaped slaves declared free in 1691 by the Spanish.

Understand how Palenque became the first free town in the America's and how its culture evolved from their roots in Senegal.

Experience one of the most unique places in the world where their language, dance, religion and even polygamy still exist.

Day 3: Beaches of Colombia

Today visit Playa Blanca one of Cartagena's many island beaches less than an hour outside of the walled city.

Relax on the white sand beach, snap photos of the crystal blue Caribbean water and eat fresh seafood straight from the sea. Get to know your fellow adventure travelers as you take in the sites and sounds.

Later that evening, taste Afro-Caribbean food, find a salsa club or watch live music in bustling Old Town Cartagena.

Day 4: Fort San Felipe

Today visit the 16th century Castillo de San Felipe de Barajas which historians believe to be the greatest Spanish fortress of all time.

Wander past the Palacio de Inquisición, hidden plazas, and historic churches to find a quaint balcony and try Colombia's best coconut rice.

Continue to explore Old Town Cartagena's stone walls, cobblestone streets, and cathedrals designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Day 5: Relaxation & Departure

After sipping your last Colombian coffee, make your final purchases from the street vendors selling their handmade art.

Say goodbye to your fellow adventure travelers and plan to keep in touch with the Under30Experiences community back home.
Be shuttled to Cartagena International Airport for your flight departing after 12 PM.

Continue your journey north to Costa Rica or choose to Explore Central America for some additional days.
