Have questions about the Under30Experiences Hidden Gems of Belize trip?
Do I need a visa to travel to Belize?

U.S. passport holders do not require a visa to enter Belize for stays of up to 30 days. However, your passport must be valid for at least six months from the date of entry.

To find specific visa requirements or restrictions for your home country, visit the Belize embassy page.

What is the currency of Belize?

The official currency of Belize is the Belize Dollar (BZD). The exchange rate is fixed at 2 BZD to 1 USD. While the Belize Dollar is the official currency, U.S. dollars are widely accepted and sometimes preferred by hotels and tour operators. It's often helpful to carry a mix of both currencies, especially for smaller purchases.

What are the accommodations like?

During your trip, you will be staying in boutique hotel rooms. Solo travelers will be paired with another traveler of the same gender.

If you would like to have a friend as your roommate, you can request this at checkout.

For those who prefer not to share a room, private room options are available on the checkout page; please note that this may incur an additional charge.

Please contact bookings@under30experiences.com for more details.

Is laundry service available?

Laundry services are offered at the hotel for an extra fee. Please check with your Trip Leader for more details.

What type of wildlife can I see in Belize?

While we cannot guarantee wildlife sightings, the most commonly spotted animals include iguanas, turtles, nurse sharks, dolphins, manta rays, many tropical fish, and manatees.

What type of luggage is best?

For your convenience, we recommend using a backpack or a medium-sized suitcase. A daypack is also essential for carrying everyday items.

Please note that space is limited on our transportation, so each person is allowed only one main piece of luggage. You will be responsible for carrying your own luggage.

Are the outlets compatible with American plugs, or should we bring adaptors?

Belize uses power plugs and sockets of types A, B, and G. The standard voltage is 110/220 V at a frequency of 60 Hz. This means that if you are from the United States, your devices (which typically use type A or B plugs) may work without an adapter, but you may still need a voltage converter if the local voltage is 220 V. It's a good idea to bring a universal travel adapter that can handle different plug types and voltages.

Can I drink the water?

It is generally not recommended to drink tap water in Belize, even in popular tourist areas. Many hotels and restaurants will provide purified or bottled water. It is best to stick to bottled water to avoid getting sick, especially if you have a sensitive stomach.

Please bring a refillable water bottle to refill from clean sources to reduce the amount of plastic used on this trip and help keep Belize beautiful!

What kind of food can I expect in Belize?

Belizean cuisine is a rich mix of flavors influenced by the country's diverse cultures, including Maya, Creole, Garifuna, and Mestizo.

  • Staples of Belizean cuisine: The most common dish is rice and beans cooked in coconut milk, often served with stewed chicken, beef, or fish.
  • Local favorites: Other popular dishes include fry jacks (puffy, deep-fried dough triangles often served for breakfast), panades (fried corn patties filled with fish or beans), and fresh seafood like conch fritters and ceviche.
  • Hot Sauce: Local hot sauce makes a great souvenir to bring back in your checked luggage.

We strive to accommodate dietary restrictions and preferences. Many meals can be modified to meet special requests and food allergies.

What type of weather should I expect?

The average temperature in Caye Caulker, Belize, ranges from 74 to 84 degrees Fahrenheit (23–28 degrees Celcius).

**Dry Season:** November to April. During this time, rainfall is scarce, and it is known as the high season due to the influx of tourists.

**Rainy Season:** June to October. You can expect daily showers and thunderstorms during this period.

What type of transportation will we be taking?

Airport pickup and drop-off will be conducted using private ground transportation to San Ignacio and then to the ferry dock.

From there, we will travel for about 45 minutes to Caye Caulker on a water taxi aboard a 35-foot powerboat. If you are prone to seasickness, we recommend bringing medication or natural wristbands to help manage the symptoms.

What is the physical activity level of this trip?

This trip is designed for relaxation and includes light activities, with optional moderate activities available. Participants can choose how much time they wish to spend being active. No physical preparation is necessary to fully enjoy the experience.

What activities are optional? And how much do they cost?

What is the nightlife like?

In Belize, you'll discover a variety of beach bars that offer strong cocktails and a vibrant island atmosphere. Be sure to visit The Split, where you can enjoy a beer while floating in the sea or play bags with an incredible sunset view.

Caye Caulker also boasts a lively nightlife scene, all within walking distance from your hotel. You'll find live music, DJs, and opportunities for dancing.

Please remember to drink responsibly; boat rides can be especially uncomfortable if you have a hangover!

What languages are spoken in Belize?

The official language of Belize is English, but Spanish and Creole are also spoken. One of the best aspects of traveling to Belize is hearing the locals speak in a fascinating blend of all three languages.

Is tipping customary in Belize?

Tipping is not required, but it is greatly appreciated in Belize's tourism and hospitality industry. A 10% gratuity is a suitable tip for restaurants, local guides, and drivers.

How much should I budget for food and activities?

It's advisable to have at least 300 USD in cash during your trip for meals, snacks, optional activities, souvenirs, and other small expenses. Please note that slightly torn, heavily marked, or faded notes may be difficult to exchange. Therefore, it's best to bring banknotes in good condition and in denominations lower than 100 USD.

U30X is such an amazing travel community. Once your trip is over, the experience is not. They keep in touch with their alumni & provide platforms for travel questions, personal development, & community connections in your own backyard! If you're a young person looking to travel I highly recommend U30X!

There are not enough ways for me to describe how amazing this company is. After my first trip I always told people, it wasn't about the location, but the experience that u30x gave me. I have some of the best experiences of my life with u30x, and now a passion for travel. Also, their alumni community and groups are awesome too!

Traveling with U30X has been life changing for me. I've made lifelong friends with both travelers and staff. I can't come up with enough good things to say about the company, the people, and the experiences I've had!

Just returned from my second trip with Under30Experiences. My first trip was to the Costa Rica rainforest. My most recent trip was to Iceland. Both trips were such an amazing experience. I loved learning about Iceland and its origins. I enjoy the small groups and I made some great new friends! Recommend them for anyone wanting to travel alone or with a couple of friends.

I was so scared to travel abroad alone and then I came across their website and they made international travel so easy! And the people I’ve met on the trips are some amazing individuals! I’ve done 6 of their trips and plan on continuing to do even more!!

Just came back from their Egypt trip. Definitely one of my top favorite trips I’ve ever taken! I knew ahead of time that I would want to go with a tour to Egypt, and under30experiences seemed like the best fit. I met amazing fellow travelers and loved our guide Mohamed who did an amazing job! Our days were pretty packed while also having some time for rest. Expect to wake up early to beat the crowds and to overall enjoy your time at the sites! Definitely planning on doing another trip with Under30experiences in the future!
