Albania’s unique blend of stunning natural beauty and rich historical heritage has made it one of Europe’s up-and-coming must-visit destinations.

Explore one of Europe’s smallest countries from the capital city of Tirana to the UNESCO World Heritage city of Berat then down to the picturesque coastal village of Dhermi. Along the way, you’ll have time to explore Albania’s beautiful landscapes and soak in the culture of its old town charms.

Learn about Albania’s culture and cuisine during a cooking class at an agriturismo, visit an important religious site that dates back to the Byzantine era, and experience the unique biodiversity of Gjipe Canyon.

Trip Overview

Day 1

Arrival in Tirana

Welcome to Albania! Your Trip Leader will meet you at Tirana International Airport (TIA) and then you’ll take included private transportation to our accommodation in Albania’s capital city of Tirana.

Tirana sits in a valley surrounded by hills and mountains. It’s a lively city renowned for its distinctive historical and modern architecture after its post-communist transformation.

Enjoy a stroll with your Trip Leader through Skanderbeg Square, the colorful Pazari i Ri market, and the Blloku district. Your first evening in Albania will end with an included group dinner, perfect to get to know your new fellow travelers.

Day 2

Berat

Leaving the capital city behind, we will drive south to Berat, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known as the "City of a Thousand Windows".

Its cobblestone alleys, Ottoman-era architecture, and ancient churches are nestled inside the hilltop castle overlooking the Osum River. Here, you’ll discover the history of Berat Castle, which dates back to the 4th century, and savor a homemade dessert.

In the evening, immerse yourself in a hands-on cooking class where you’ll learn to prepare authentic Albanian dishes using fresh, local ingredients.

Day 3

Zvernec Monastery and Vlore

The journey will continue south toward the scenic Albanian Riviera. You’ll experience scenic mountain passes, coastal views as well as olive groves.

One of the day’s highlights is a visit to the Zvernec Monastery, a historic Byzantine Orthodox monastery on a small, pine-covered island in the Narta Lagoon. Then, have some free time to explore Vlore’s Old Town or dine on fresh seafood at one of the many restaurants along the beachfront promenade.

Arrival at your final destination, Dhermi, is planned for late afternoon. After settling into your accommodation, take an orientation walk with your Trip Leader to get to know this scenic coastal village, which still retains its traditional charm.

Day 4

Pirate’s Cave Boat Tour

A private boat will await you to explore Dhermi’s coastline of hidden beaches and crystal-clear waters. The trip includes a visit to Pirate’s Cave, where you’ll have the opportunity to swim and snorkel in beautiful waters and hear stories from the captain about local stories and legends.

Back on the mainland, choose local lunch at any of the local eateries. The rest of the afternoon is free for you to relax on the beach or opt for as much adventure as you please.

Dhermi is home to several beautiful beaches, including Drymades and Palase, each offering various water sports, such as kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding. You can also opt to take a break from the beach and explore the cobblestone streets of the old village and visit some of the historical churches.

Day 5

Gjipe Canyon to Gjipe Beach

A short drive from Dhermi town will take you to the starting point of your hiking adventure. Gjipe Canyon is a dramatic limestone gorge carved by centuries of flowing water, flanked by towering cliffs and lush vegetation.

This moderate-rated trail offers a blend of mild scrambling and walking through rocky paths, shaded spots, and narrow passages. At the end of the hike, reach Gjipe Beach, a secluded cove with golden sand and striking cliffs enclosing it, where the canyon meets the Ionian Sea.

Spend a relaxing afternoon swimming in turquoise waters, sunbathing on the pebbled shore, or exploring the surrounding cliffs before returning to the trailhead. The evening features an included group dinner, a perfect time to share memories of your Albanian Riviera adventures.

Day 6

Return to Tirana

Morning brings a farewell to Dhermi and a scenic drive back north to Albania’s capital city of Tirana, with stops along the way to enjoy views of the Ionian coast.

Upon arrival, everyone will have some free time to explore the city at your leisure. Opt to visit the National History Museum or visit the House of Leaves, a museum that focuses on state security and spying during communist times.

In the evening, gather for a farewell dinner with your newfound friends and reflect on your journey through Albania.

Day 7

Depart Albania

The final day offers one last chance to enjoy Tirana before departure.

Say goodbye to your new friends and take included transportation to Tirana International Airport (TIA).

For anyone extending their stay, the Trip Leader can suggest places worth visiting in Tirana or nearby parts of the Balkans.
