Have a question about the Under30Experiences Mexico City trip?

What are the accommodations like? How do I request a roommate?

You will stay in boutique hotel rooms for the duration of your trip. Solo travelers are paired with someone of the same gender.

You can request a friend to be your roommate upon checkout.

If you'd prefer not to have a roommate, private room options are available upon request, subject to hotel availability for an extra charge.  Please contact for more details.

Is laundry available?

Laundry is available at the hotel for an additional fee. Ask your Trip Leader for details.

What type of luggage is best?

We recommend using a backpack for your convenience, or a medium-sized suitcase if you prefer.
A daypack is also essential for carrying everyday items. Space is limited on our transportation, so there is a limit of one main piece of luggage per person. You will be responsible for carrying your own luggage.

Are the outlets compatible with American plugs, or should we bring adaptors?

If you're from the US traveling to Mexico all US appliances and devices should work without a power converter or power adaptor. If your device can run on 127 volts or is dual voltage but the plug won't fit in a Mexican power outlet you'll need to bring a suitable plug adaptor for Mexico such a Type B plug adaptor or a universal adaptor.

Can I drink the water?

Tap water is not safe to drink. There will be potable water to drink in the hotel.

We encourage our travelers to travel sustainably. Please bring a reusable water bottle.

What kind of food can I expect in Mexico?

Breakfasts will be served at your hotel. Dinners are enjoyed in local restaurants. In Mexico you can experience the vast array of wonderful food available in this region. Your Trip Leader will be able to suggest great restaurants to try during your trip. To give you the maximum flexibility in deciding where, what, and with whom to eat, generally not all meals are included in the trip price. This also gives you more budgeting flexibility.

In Mexico City, like in any big city, you can expect to try all types of food, from street food to fine dining, from Mexican gastronomy to any specialty. Your leader will make sure to show you the most traditional dishes and places so you can experience all types of local flavors.

Sample Breakfast Menu:
Small breakfast buffet, with a warm and cold selection

Sample Dinner Menu:
Tacos, enchiladas, guacamole, We do our best to accommodate dietary restrictions.

Some meals can be modified for special requests and food allergies.

What type of weather should I expect?

Mexico’s weather varies in the city & surrounding area depending on time of year. In Mexico City, the average summer temperature is in the low 80s, and in winter low 70s , although in the winter (December) it can drop down to the low 40s in the evenings.

Be sure to check the local weather forecast before departing for your trip.

What type of transportation will we be taking?

You will be traveling by private, locally-owned, ground transportation. There will be early departures on some days in order to optimize time.

Private ground transportation to and from the airport
Private ground transportation to and from your hotels and included activities
Trajinera (traditional Mexican boats) along the Xochimilco canal.

Taxis and other public transportation are not included unless specified on the itinerary.

What is the physical activity level of this trip?

Easy. This trip is relaxing and includes light activities with optional moderate activities.  Participants can decide how much time they spend being active.  No physical preparation is required to make the most of the experience.

What activities are optional? And how much do they cost?

Due to the short nature of this trip, there will not be a lot of time for optional activities. However, if you would like to arrive early or stay later, there are plenty of activities in the area.

What is the nightlife like?

Mexico City nightlife has a bit of everything from dance clubs to pubs to live music venues, making it a great location for any type of traveler.

What languages are spoken in Mexico?

Spanish is the official language of Mexico. English is widely spoken in many tourist areas and hotels.

Knowing a second language is not required to enjoy this trip.

Is tipping customary in Mexico

Tipping is not expected though it is greatly appreciated, especially since tourism and hospitality are one of the leading industries in Mexico. Adding 10% gratuity at restaurants, local guides and drivers is a suitable tip.

How much should I budget for food and activities?

Bring cash with you! We recommend you have at least $300 USD cash on you during the trip for lunches, snacks, optional activities, souvenirs, etc.

All places accept USD so you do not need to convert to the local currency.

Do I need to worry about a visa?

When traveling with a passport, citizens of the United States, Canada, and most Latin American and European countries are entitled to stay in Mexico for 90 days. They must enter the country with a departure ticket and a valid passport that does not expire within 30 days of their arrival in Mexico.

To find specific visa requirements or restrictions for your home country, visit the Mexico embassy page.

U30X is such an amazing travel community. Once your trip is over, the experience is not. They keep in touch with their alumni & provide platforms for travel questions, personal development, & community connections in your own backyard! If you're a young person looking to travel I highly recommend U30X!

There are not enough ways for me to describe how amazing this company is. After my first trip I always told people, it wasn't about the location, but the experience that u30x gave me. I have some of the best experiences of my life with u30x, and now a passion for travel. Also, their alumni community and groups are awesome too!

Traveling with U30X has been life changing for me. I've made lifelong friends with both travelers and staff. I can't come up with enough good things to say about the company, the people, and the experiences I've had!

Just returned from my second trip with Under30Experiences. My first trip was to the Costa Rica rainforest. My most recent trip was to Iceland. Both trips were such an amazing experience. I loved learning about Iceland and its origins. I enjoy the small groups and I made some great new friends! Recommend them for anyone wanting to travel alone or with a couple of friends.

I was so scared to travel abroad alone and then I came across their website and they made international travel so easy! And the people I’ve met on the trips are some amazing individuals! I’ve done 6 of their trips and plan on continuing to do even more!!

My Hike the Inca Trail trip was beyond amazing, and I couldn't have asked for anything more from a trip. Our leaders made us all feel instantly comfortable, and the group was fantastic. The trip was well planned and the hike was unforgettable. Memories to last a lifetime.
