Trip Overview

Day 1

Halló Reykjavik!

Arrive at Keflavik Airport (KEF) before 7:00AM and take the included transportation to Reykjavik, Iceland's capital city.

Meet fellow hikers for breakfast before exploring the charming downtown area with European cafes, historic sites and beautiful views.

Depart Reykjavik for your Icelandic basecamp and prepare for your epic adventure where you’ll hike an average of 10 miles a day through breathtaking wilderness over the next five days.

In the afternoon, organize your gear and equipment with an expert guide and learn about what to expect over the next week.

Day 2

Begin the Trek

Trek through Torfahlaup, a narrowing in the big river of Markarfljót. Quench your thirst from the Icelandic mountain streams as you make your way towards the famous Laugavegurinn hike.

Your guides will be there to support you on your trek, transporting your camping equipment and duffel bag via super jeep from campsite to campsite.

Throughout the trek you’ll get the full Icelandic camping experience by setting up camp, preparing meals as a group, and following sustainable Leave No Trace procedures.

While absorbing Icelandic nature, hear heroic folklore stories told by your local guides that Icelanders have been telling throughout the centuries.

Day 3

Hike Volcanic Deserts & Canyons

Continue approximately 10 miles on the famous Laugavegur Trail as you take in striking scenery filled with color contrasts such as black sand, white glaciers, green mountains, and blue rivers.

From the Álftavatn lake, hike towards the cone shaped, green mountain of Stóra Súla before entering the volcanic deserts of Mælifellsandur.

Ford the rivers of Bratthálskvísl and Bláfjallakvísl on foot before crossing the powerful glacier river, Nyrðri Emstruá, on a walking bridge.

After setting up camp in Emstrur, embark on an evening hike exploring the magnificent Markarfljót canyons.

Day 4

Cross Into Icelandic Forests

Hike through the beautiful canyons of Syðri Emstruá and Ljósá, before exploring through the gorges of Slyppugil and Bjórgil--the beer gorge.

Begin in the black desert and trek past an old lava field, Almenningar, before entering the birch forest in Þórsmörk.

Before reaching our goal of another 10 miles, the Þröngá River lies between us and our destination at Þórsmörk.

Day 5

Relax In The Valley of Thor

Hang out in the valley named for the Norse God Thor, in an area called “Þórsmörk”.

Surrounded by glaciers, volcanoes, and fantastic landscapes, you’ll take a day to relax in the Icelandic wilderness.

Today can be spent relaxing or hiking but whatever you choose to do, the surroundings and views are breathtaking.

Day 6

Hike Between Glaciers and Volcanoes

Today we hike the famous Fimmvörðuháls Trail that lies between Eyjafjallajökull Volcano and Myrdalsjökull Glacier, home of the Katla Volcano.

Finish strong with a 15 mile route through incredible views over the highlands and experience the beautiful Skógá river with more than 20 waterfalls, before ending at the iconic Skógafoss Waterfall.

Celebrate your epic accomplishment with a drink and a rooftop hot tub waiting for you at your final basecamp.

Day 7
