Have a question about the Under30Experiences Tulum trip?

What is the food in Tulum like?

In Tulum, expect authentic Yucatan style Mexican food. This region of Mexico has been influenced by Mayan and European cultures. Most Mexicans continue to eat more native foods, such as corn, beans, and peppers, but you will also find A LOT of traditional authentic Mexican food.

Most traditional meals can be made without meat or animal product, Tulum is very vegetarian friendly. But if you have strict diet restrictions we recommend bringing some snacks.  Your Trip Leader can do their best to translate gluten-free, dairy-free, and nut-free options.

Also, be sure to try the local mezcal & have a mojito at arguably the best mojito bar on planet Earth.

What type of weather should I expect?

The weather in Tulum, Mexico can be described as tropical and humid. The average temperature in Tulum is 79 degrees fahrenheit during the day and an average low of 72 fahrenheit at night.

There are two seasons:

Dry season:  November - April. Rainfall is scarce and also known as the busy season.

Rainy season: June - November. Rainfall should be expected.

Please note we do not run trips during hurricane season, August - October.

What kind of wildlife can I see?

The Yucatan Penninsula is home to mammals such as spider monkeys, agoutis, coatis, and deer. Big cats like jaguars, pumas, and ocelots stay deep in the jungle.

Reptiles like iguanas and lizards are seen at our hotel, while snakes and crocodiles normally stay in the nature reserves.

The Mayan Riviera is known for many different types of birds including toucans, parrots, turkeys, hummingbirds, and woodpeckers.  If you are lucky you may see a quetzal or chachalacas. Sian Ka'an bird species include egrets, kingfishers, blue herons, frigates, pelicans, sea eagles and pink flamingos.

On the water keep an eye out for dolphins, manatees, sea turtles, and tropical fish.

What are the accommodations like? How do I request a roommate?

We will stay in boutique hotel rooms in the center of Tulum just steps from restaurants, shops, and vibrant nightlife.

Solo travelers are paired with someone of the same gender.  You can request a friend to be your roommate upon checkout.

If you'd prefer not to have a roommate, private room options are available upon request, subject to hotel availability for an extra charge.  Please contact for more details.

What activities are optional?

We’ve included many activities in the price of the trip giving you plenty to do. However, we pride ourselves in helping you make the trip perfect for you. Therefore we’ve sought out the best activities and vendors to help you have the experience you want.

Keeping that in mind, the dryest time is from November - April.

Can I drink the water in Tulum, Mexico?

The tap water is not safe to drink. We will have potable water to drink in the hotel. Please bring a reusable water bottle with you.

What is the physical activity level of this trip?

This trip is a good mix of activity and relaxation and includes moderate physical activities. An active lifestyle is helpful though not required to enjoy the trip.

Some travelers will find the walks around the ruins challenging, while more athletic people will not find them particularly difficult.

Weather conditions like heat, humidity, and rain can change trail conditions and the intensity of the activity. If you work at a desk all day, expect to do a lot more physical activity than normal.

Our Trip Leaders are great at challenging you while keeping you safe and waiting for people who like to take their time.

Can I opt out of an included activity?

Of course! This trip is your trip and you don’t have to participate in anything you don’t want to. Also keep in mind your trip leader can help you set up other optional activities if you want.

U30X is such an amazing travel community. Once your trip is over, the experience is not. They keep in touch with their alumni & provide platforms for travel questions, personal development, & community connections in your own backyard! If you're a young person looking to travel I highly recommend U30X!

There are not enough ways for me to describe how amazing this company is. After my first trip I always told people, it wasn't about the location, but the experience that u30x gave me. I have some of the best experiences of my life with u30x, and now a passion for travel. Also, their alumni community and groups are awesome too!

Traveling with U30X has been life changing for me. I've made lifelong friends with both travelers and staff. I can't come up with enough good things to say about the company, the people, and the experiences I've had!

Just returned from my second trip with Under30Experiences. My first trip was to the Costa Rica rainforest. My most recent trip was to Iceland. Both trips were such an amazing experience. I loved learning about Iceland and its origins. I enjoy the small groups and I made some great new friends! Recommend them for anyone wanting to travel alone or with a couple of friends.

I was so scared to travel abroad alone and then I came across their website and they made international travel so easy! And the people I’ve met on the trips are some amazing individuals! I’ve done 6 of their trips and plan on continuing to do even more!!

My Hike the Inca Trail trip was beyond amazing, and I couldn't have asked for anything more from a trip. Our leaders made us all feel instantly comfortable, and the group was fantastic. The trip was well planned and the hike was unforgettable. Memories to last a lifetime.
