Galapagos Islands Itinerary

Day 1

Welcome to Ecuador!


  • Arrive in Quito at anytime after 2 pm for included transportation to the hotel
  • Relax and acclimate to the altitude after your international flight and get to know your fellow travelers while relaxing in the pool
  • Enjoy our first dinner together before our adventure tomorrow

Day 2

Explore Quito: “The Light of America”


  • Enjoy breakfast together while you meet your new friends
  • Take included transportation into Quito to explore the city center


  • Take a guided city tour of Quito, a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site
  • Enjoy a local Ecuadorian lunch in Quito while you take in this marvelous city
  • Create your own adventure & take advantage of the opportunity to explore the historical wonders of this city
  • Suggestions: Teleferico, souvenir shopping at the local market, visit the many famous museums in the city, or grab a drink with your group


  • Take included transportation back to our boutique hotel
  • Have a delicious dinner right at the hotel and relax before our early morning flight and adventure tomorrow
  • Prepare for the following day while your Trip Leader leads you through a meeting getting you ready for your trip to the Galapagos

Day 3

Welcome to the Galapagos!


  • After breakfast, take an included early morning flight to the Galapagos (apx. 3hr flight)
  • *Travelers responsible for $100 cash fee to enter Galapagos Islands
  • You will fly Baltra Island, a small island of the Galapagos. After landing we’ll make our way to neighboring Santa Cruz with a quick local ferry.
  • Our first stop will be in the highlands of Santa Cruz where we’ll visit a local Giant Tortoise reserve 🐢
  • Observe these huge, magical creatures in their natural habitat and have the opportunity to explore some nearby lava tunnels while you gain a better appreciation of the natural forces that created these islands


  • You will enjoy lunch at a local ranch in the highlands of Santa Cruz
  • After lunch, we’ll continue to Puerto Ayora where we’ll meet with the local Ecology Club and learn about sustainability efforts and challenges in the Galapagos from local high school students
  • After designing our own souvenirs out of recycled materials, we’ll check-in to our hotel and explore the unique town


  • Create your own adventure on the island or just take some time to relax
  • Optional activity suggestions:  Las Grietas, Charles Darwin Station, Las Ninfas
  • Traditional Ecuadorian dinner together in Santa Cruz

Day 4

Snorkel + Hike an Uninhabited Island


  • Today we embark to an uninhabited island to hike and experience spectacular panoramic views of the island
  • Experience the local wildlife in the Galapagos and walk with Marine Iguanas, Blue Footed Boobies, Frigates, and more


  • Go on an awesome adventure snorkeling among friendly sea lions, sea turtles, and a huge variety of fish that make this a fantastic place for nature enthusiasts
  • Take included transportation back to Puerto Ayora and enjoy some free time in this wonderful little town


  • Create your own adventure or just take some time to relax
  • Optional activity suggestions:  Las Grietas, Charles Darwin Station, Las Ninfas
  • Enjoy a delicious Ecuadorian dinner with your friends at a local restaurant  

Day 5

Tortuga Bay Beach Day + Isabela Island


  • Embark on a scenic hike to one of the largest white sand beaches in the archipelago
  • Tortuga Bay is a gorgeous beach accessible only by foot and filled with a variety of activities. A leisurely 45-minute path leads to the beach area and along the way, you may spot lava lizards, native birds, and massive marine iguanas.
  • Here you’ll have the option to swim, snorkel, kayak, surf, or you can just hang out with local marine life


  • After a delicious lunch at Puerto Ayora, take a scenic public boat ride to Isabela Island, the largest island on  the Archipelago
  • After checking into the hotel, enjoy a stroll through the picturesque town of Puerto Villamil. Along its white sand beach, you’ll find the perfect spot to enjoy the sunset at arguably the most beautiful of all the islands


  • Enjoy a traditional dinner on the beach of Isabela Island and reflect on the day’s adventures
  • Hit the town for a night out, or simply relax at the hotel and unwind after the day’s activities

Day 6

Volcano Hiking


  • Take included transportation to one of the most impressive natural wonders on Isabela Island -- Sierra Negra Volcano
  • Strap on your hiking boots and get ready to hike a volcano! Sierra Negra is one of the most active volcanoes in Galapagos and its last eruption was in 2008.
  • Once you reach the top, enjoy the breathtaking view stretching across one of the largest and most active volcanic craters in the world


  • Head back to town and eat  lunch at a local restaurant
  • Enjoy a free afternoon in Puerto Villamil where you’ll have the opportunity to walk to Concha Perla and enjoy the crystalline water. Or take a stroll to Poza Flamingos and observe the local wildlife in their natural habitat
  • Optional activity suggestions: Snorkeling in Concha de Perla, surfing, biking, or visiting the famous Wall of Tears


  • Have dinner with the group at a traditional restaurant on Isabela Island
  • Hit the town for a night out, or simply relax at the hotel after your active day

Day 7

Snorkel with Sharks at Tintoreras Islet


  • Enjoy a delicious breakfast right at the hotel
  • After breakfast, we will head for Tintoreras. It takes about 10 minutes by boat from the dock of Villamil Port to get to Las Tintoreras.
  • There, you will find the Galapagos penguin, as well as reef sharks, marine turtles, and sea lions. On the way to the islet, we’ll enjoy a scenic ride where you can spot Galapagos penguins, blue-footed boobies, sea turtles, and sea lions
  • Enjoy a private snorkeling activity where you’ll likely swim with sea turtles, colorful fish, and manta rays


  • Afterward, travel back to Puerto Villamil for lunch
  • Then, take a speedboat back to Santa Cruz Island for a last night out in town or to do some last minute shopping on Santa Cruz island


  • Relax back at the hotel before heading out for the final dinner on the Galapagos Islands

Day 8



  • Take included transportation to the airport where you’ll catch your included local flight back to Quito
  • Once back in Quito, your trip leader will help you find your connecting flight back home 
  • He/she will also help you find your way to the city center if you’re staying later
  • Stay in touch with the Under30Experiences community
