Black Friday: Experiences Over Things

Choosing experiences over things isn't a new concept for our generation. However, when I think about opting for an epic experience over buying some tangible thing, I usually associate that "something" with a big ticket item, especially during Black Friday.

Like, do I want a new washer and dryer or TV? Sure.

Would I rather use that money to go to Thailand, or Peru, or Costa Rica, or Iceland? ABSOFREAKINGLUTELY.

What I rarely consider though, is that prioritizing travel over things isn't limited to expensive things. I recently did a breakdown of some smaller recurring expenses that I could eliminate that would allow me to take an international trip within 12 months or less. Here's what I found:

How to Save

Happy Hour

This is easily a place that I could (ok, should) cut back on in order to save! If I cut back on even just two drinks a week, I could save $832 over the course of a year. That's only eliminating two drinks per WEEK! That's nothing! I will happily give up those two drinks in order to go to Costa Rica next year.

Daily Coffee Run

Are you guilty of this one as well? I realized that if I make coffee at home for a year instead of grabbing a fancy coffee every morning, I could easily save over $1,000 a year and have enough to go on the Starter Costa Rica trip!

Another easy way to get to Costa Rica - CUT YOUR CABLE! If you still have cable, that's a good $850 a year on average that you're spending. Cut that $hit out.

Here's where it get's really interesting though...

Happy Hour + Coffee

Cut back on just two drinks a week AND start making your own coffee every morning, and you could save just under $1,900 a year. That's enough to go to Iceland, Peru, Italy, Ireland, Scotland & London, Belize, Bali, Costa Rica Extended, or Costa Rica Adventure.

Happy Hour + Coffee + Cable

Consider cutting back on two drinks a week, start making your own coffee in the morning, AND cut cable for one year, and you could save over $2,700! This could get you to Amazon & Machu Picchu, Brazil, Spain, Vietnam & Cambodia, Greece, or the Galapagos Islands.

Crazy right?! Perhaps choosing experiences over things isn't quite as hard as you once imagined. What's even better, is that the Under30Experiences Black Friday sale is just around the corner, which will help make your next adventure even more financially feasible! Here are the deets:
