Welcome to Oaxaca, Mexico

Morning

  • Arrive at Oaxaca International Airport (OAX) at 2:00 p.m., ready to begin your adventure.

  • Get settled into your hotel. You’ve got four days of culture and celebration ahead.

Afternoon

  • Explore the lively local markets. You’ll find vendors who are descendants of the Zapotec and Mixtec indigenous peoples, selling woven blankets, shawls, and fragrant margarita flowers. The city also boasts a vibrant arts scene, featuring folk art, contemporary works, and dance performances.

Evening

  • Enjoy a welcome dinner and drinks in Oaxaca at a local restaurant where you’ll first taste traditional Mexican flavors.
  • After dinner, settle into your room. Relax—it’s been a long travel day, and the adventure is just beginning.

Day 2

Día de los Muertos

Morning

  • After a delightful breakfast, prepare to immerse yourself in Oaxaca, a place steeped in rich history and diverse cultural traditions. Your journey begins with an orientation walk and a visit to Benito Juarez Market and 20 de Noviembre Market. Here, you'll explore the market scene, try some local delicacies, and meet the artisans and vendors.

Afternoon

  • Enjoy the included lunch at one of Oaxaca's hidden gems, a top destination for food lovers.
  • Oaxaca, Mexico, is known for its delicious food because of its unique ingredients, skilled cooks, and hospitality. The region's diverse geography and indigenous cultures have also influenced its cuisine.
  • You’ll also have some time to explore the markets before continuing with your adventure.

Evening

  • As dusk falls, you’ll visit a local cemetery or pantheon, where the Day of the Dead celebration comes to life. This annual tradition honors those who have passed away, bringing families together in a festive atmosphere. The cemetery is illuminated by flickering candles and adorned with vibrant marigold flowers known as cempasúchil. The sweet scent of incense fills the air as families create “ofrendas,” or offerings, to welcome the spirits of their loved ones.
  • During your visit, you'll have the opportunity to witness the children's celebration of the Day of the Dead. Families come together sincerely to remember fallen young lives. You'll marvel at the colorful altars adorned with toys, sweets, and personal mementos of the young ones they honor. As families share heartfelt stories and memories, the space wraps the evening in love and connection.
  • This journey is not just about sightseeing; it's a chance to participate in a meaningful tradition that showcases the unique blend of remembrance and festivity that makes Oaxaca a remarkable place.
  • Dinner is not included tonight, but your Trip Leader will offer recommendations.

U30X is such an amazing travel community. Once your trip is over, the experience is not. They keep in touch with their alumni & provide platforms for travel questions, personal development, & community connections in your own backyard! If you're a young person looking to travel I highly recommend U30X!

There are not enough ways for me to describe how amazing this company is. After my first trip I always told people, it wasn't about the location, but the experience that u30x gave me. I have some of the best experiences of my life with u30x, and now a passion for travel. Also, their alumni community and groups are awesome too!

Traveling with U30X has been life changing for me. I've made lifelong friends with both travelers and staff. I can't come up with enough good things to say about the company, the people, and the experiences I've had!

Just returned from my second trip with Under30Experiences. My first trip was to the Costa Rica rainforest. My most recent trip was to Iceland. Both trips were such an amazing experience. I loved learning about Iceland and its origins. I enjoy the small groups and I made some great new friends! Recommend them for anyone wanting to travel alone or with a couple of friends.

I was so scared to travel abroad alone and then I came across their website and they made international travel so easy! And the people I’ve met on the trips are some amazing individuals! I’ve done 6 of their trips and plan on continuing to do even more!!

Just came back from their Egypt trip. Definitely one of my top favorite trips I’ve ever taken! I knew ahead of time that I would want to go with a tour to Egypt, and under30experiences seemed like the best fit. I met amazing fellow travelers and loved our guide Mohamed who did an amazing job! Our days were pretty packed while also having some time for rest. Expect to wake up early to beat the crowds and to overall enjoy your time at the sites! Definitely planning on doing another trip with Under30experiences in the future!
